History

The Apdex methodology was first described by Peter Sevcik in 2004. The objective was to have a simple and uniform open standard to report on application performance regardless of how it was measured.

He formed a group of leading application performance measurement experts who formalized the approach as the Apdex Technical Specification in 2005. The group, which became the Apdex Alliance, fostered adoption of the standard. By 2006, the Alliance had 15 member companies and a six-person advisory board.

Adoption grew, and since the approach was in the public domain, the need for an industry alliance waned. The methodology is now loosely supported through an international Users Group which operates this informational website and a LinkedIn group.
